Gullah/Geechee cultural arts showcase February 6-8

GGCCT is excited to invite you to our Gullah/Geechee Cultural Arts Showcase, Friday through Sunday, Feb. 6-8, 2026.

The showcase highlights the artistic gifts of Gullah/Geechee natives in the visual, literary and hand-crafted arts. We will explore the juxtaposition of form and structure through a review of our ancestors' contributions to the built environment and a showing of diverse attire fashioned from African textiles. Finally, we will remember the spiritual traditions and practices of our culture through song, narrative and verse.

Special guests include:

Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation

Phillip Jefferson, Principal Designer, PHILLIPJEFFERSONDESIGN; Program Director/Associate Professor, Wake Technical Community College, Architectural Technology Department, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Rayshad Dorsey, Assistant Professor, Washington University, Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, St. Louis, Missouri; Founder, Studio Rayshad Dorsey, and other surprise guests to be announced!

Featured Artists include:

Authors: Queen Quet, Dearsha Johnson and John F. Holliday; Illustrator and Graphic Designer: Zavia D. Jenkins; Visual Artists: Winston Christopher and Della Jones; Artisans: Sherry Shine and Anastatia Ketchen, Seren, and Devonne Janeé Shedrick, Sweetgrass Basket Artists; Clothing Designer: Carl J. Frederick.

The Gullah/Geechee Cultural Arts Showcase offers the public insight into "Two-Hundred Voices: Reclaiming Gullah/Geechee Places, Spaces and Narratives," a project supported by the Delores Barr Weaver Black Arts Organization Fund at the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida.
