Barnabas to offer evening food

In response to ongoing food insecurity in Nassau County, Barnabas Center is launching new and expanded access points for free groceries, including a pilot evening pantry program at the main Fernandina Beach location, mobile food distribution events, and emergency food bag locations in Callahan and Hilliard.

The new evening food distributions at Barnabas Center aim to better serve working families and individuals who cannot visit during traditional pantry hours. Evening pantry hours will take place on Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. at:

Barnabas Center
1303 Jasmine Street, Suite 101
Fernandina Beach, FL 32034

Pilot evening dates:

• July 31
• August 21
• August 28
• September 18
• September 25
• October 23

In addition to the evening hours, Barnabas Center continues to provide mobile food distributions at convenient locations across the county:

Martin Luther King Jr. Center (1200 Elm St., Fernandina Beach)
• August 9, September 13 | 8-9 a.m.

Springhill Baptist Church (941017 Old Nassauville Rd., Fernandina Beach)
• August 11, September 8 | 9-10 a.m.

Northeast Florida Fairgrounds (543378 U.S. Hwy. 1, Callahan)
• July 21, August 18, September 15 | 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.

“Expanding access through flexible hours and multiple locations helps us better reach neighbors who might otherwise go without,” said Jamie Reynolds, President and CEO of Barnabas Center. “Whether it’s in the evening, on the weekend, or through emergency resources, we want to ensure food is available when and where it’s needed most.”
