The tragic assassination of Charles Kirk is a grim reminder of how destructive political violence is. We state emphatically: there is no place for violence in American politics. Unified Nassau Florida, part of the Indivisible movement, was founded on the belief that democracy is defended not with bullets, but with ballots, organizing, and communities who refuse to give up on one another. We oppose authoritarianism, disinformation, and intimidation in all its forms, but we do so through nonviolent action and the power of collective voices.
In moments of grief and anger, we must resist those who would use tragedy to divide us further. Violence cannot be the answer; solidarity and civic participation must be.
All Americans, no matter their political affiliation, must stand up and speak out against violence, wherever it comes from. Violence in politics is not a partisan issue; it is an attack on democracy itself. When we excuse it, minimize it, or use it as a weapon against our opponents, we erode the very foundation of our republic.
We may disagree passionately about policy, parties, or candidates, but we must remain united in rejecting threats, intimidation, and bloodshed as tools of political expression.
Silence in the face of violence is complicity. We must speak out loudly, clearly, and together; to ensure that our nation chooses peace, justice, and democracy over hatred and division.
Sincerely,
Michael & Gayle Kersten
