'Just Jazzin’ Around with the Gary Motley Trio'

The Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival (the festival) today presents a family concert: Just Jazzin’ Around with the Gary Motley Trio, a fun, interactive introduction to jazz created especially for young listeners.

The performance is free, with seats reserved at free concert. The performance is at Maxwell Hall is located behind the Memorial United Methodist Church Sanctuary, on 6th Street.

“This is the perfect event to bring your entire family to,” said Robyn Lamp, executive director. “It’s a concert where kids can run around and be themselves. You don’t have to worry about disturbing other concert-goers, because you’re all in the same boat enjoying a fun, interactive experience where you’ll learn about jazz.”

Motley is a jazz pianist, teacher, composer, arranger, and author who has been a prominent figure in the jazz scene of the southeastern United States since he started his solo career in 1994. He is renowned for his exceptional skills as a pianist and composer across various genres, such as straight-ahead jazz and chamber music. 

He is a teaching professor and the founding Director of Jazz Studies at Emory University. Gary authored "Harmonic Development and Contrapuntal Techniques for the Jazz Pianist" (Taylor & Francis, 2024).
